The Hardest Thing To Say Was Goodbye

The hardest thing to say
Was goodbye
But it had to be said
It took resolve
As hard as granite
But it was said
It wasn't for the want of love
There was love aplenty
On both sides
But we had grown apart
Sought different goals
And though the regret was deep
The last thing we said
Was goodbye

A parting of the ways

Some couples simply drift apart, others find their relationship explodes with a show of glorious pyrotechnics. This poem describes the middle way, a break up which is considered and amicable, but nonetheless painful.
